This training will focus on how technology can be misused by domestic violence offenders to stalk, harass, and control victims. This misuse can raise significant challenges for law enforcement. New technologies develop rapidly, and are readily employed by offenders to exploit, stalk and harass their victims.
Training participants will have an opportunity to learn about the common ways in which offenders misuse technologies, such as phones, computers, cameras, and global positioning systems (GPS) to stalk. In addition, participants will learn what necessary evidence should be obtained in stalking cases and how to assist victims in documentation and evidence preservation.
Blocks of instruction will be presented by the New Jersey State Police Cyber Crimes Unit and the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC), formerly known as the Stalking Resource Center.
